Thurdsay 1st

At Hornsea Mere a Rough-legged Buzzard drifted south at 4pm. Elsewhere in the area

Turtle Dove, Common Tern, Stock Dove and Cuckoo were at Tophill Low. A Buzzard was seen in the Watton Area. Also Today migrants moving in at Kiplingcotes including 3 Turtle Doves one of which was photographed by Michael Flowers.

Friday 2nd

Reports from Hornsea Mere today include Hobby and Osprey passing through, and

Grasshopper Warblers have been present this week. Offshore at Ulrome Terns have

started to move with Sandwich & Arctic being seen today. A Garden Warbler was seen

at Hudson Way reserve this morning.

Saturday 3rd

Today at Tophill Low Marsh Harrier, 4 Common Tern, Garden Warbler and Redpoll

Sunday 4th

Black Terns today at Tophill Low and Hornsea Mere, also Arctic Tern and Wood

Warbler at the mere. Also at Tophill Yellow Wagtail and Common Tern.

Monday 5th

Long-tailed Duck and Grasshopper Warbler at Weel. Turtle Doves, Common Terns,

Garden Warbler and Greenshank at Tophill Low. A Wheatear appeared on the Tophill

approach road early afternoon and was kind enough to pose for photographs

including this one

A visitor e-mailed today about a grass snake showing well near the 'O' Reservoir at

Tophill Low, Warden Richard Hampshire had also seen it and managed a photograph.

Sightings from Paul today include Marsh Harrier, Little Egret,Cuckoo and Whimbrel.

Butterflies seen were Brimstone and Speckled Wood.

Tuesday 6th

Sightings today included Grasshopper Warbler at Weel. Black Terns again at Tophill

Low and High Esk where this beautiful photograph was taken by Dave Hobson.

On the Butterfly front Orange Tip and Speckled Wood were seen at Tophill Low

Wood Sandpiper, Whimbrel and Wheatear today at Swinemoor.

Wednesday 7th

A Crane was present at Hornsea Mere today. At Tophill Low 5 Black Terns on 'D' Res

continued a good run for the area. Also here Common Tern and Little Gull. At Brough

Airfield Marsh a Temmincks Stint was reported today.

Thursday 8th

A pair of Gargany on the south side of Hornsea Mere today. And in Driffield 3 Holly

Blue butterflies were active at Kingsmill. 4 Black Terns at Tophill Low and a Red-crested

Pochard at Brough Airfield were also seen today.

Friday 9th

Long-tailed Duck, Common Sandpiper at Weel. At Hornsea Mere 5 Black Terns and

3 Arctic Terns along with a Little Ringed Plover.Swinemoor held Greenshank and

White Wagtail.

Saturday 10th

A nice record from Paul Holme Strays today, this cracking Whinchat photographed by

Martin Standley.

Sunday 11th

Sightings from the North Bransholme/ Bransholme Fishing Ponds area included an

Osprey heading North and singing Sedge, Reed Warblers and Whitethroats. At

Tophill Low the first Spotted Flycatcher of the year was seen.

Monday 12th

Good numbers of Wood Sandpipers around the area today including 5 at Swinemoor

and 1 at Bewholme. Common Sandpipers were also seen at Hornsea, together with

Buzzard, and High Esk. Little Ringed Plovers and Buzzard at Heron Lakes.

Wednesday 14th

Wood Sandpipers are still at Swinemoor along with Ringed, Little Ringed Plovers

and Greenshank. Lapwing chicks are now in evidence throughout our area. Common

Tern, Spotted Flycatcher and Little Ringed Plover at Tophill Low.

Thursday 15th

Wood Sandpipers still at Swinemoor and on the coast 2 Sandwich Terns passed

Ulrome.

Sunday 18th

It seems to be a very quiet period now with many birds busy with nesting activities.

A few Spotted Flycatchers have been seen within our area including 2 at Hornsea

Mere. Avocets have been observed at Paull Holme Strays and Brough Airfield. 3 Grey

Plovers were at Paull Holme Strays.

Monday 19th

Sightings from Paull Holme Strays this evening include 2 Whimbrel, 3 Avocet, 8 Grey

Plover anad Common Sandpiper

Tuesday 20th

Sightings from Tophill Low included Barn Owl and Common Sandpiper.

Butterflies seem to be in short supply this spring any records from our area would be

appreciated.

Wednesday 21st

Sightings from Brough Haven today include 4 Avocet, 7 'tundrea' Ringed Plovers, 31

Dunlin and a Turnstone. At least 3 Turtle Doves today seen from the lanes between

Wansford, Skerne and Tophill Low.

Recent reports of Butterflies from around the area include Holly Blues in Hull and Driffield.

Brimstone, Orange Tip and Speckled Wood along Leven canal.

Thursday 22nd

3 Pairs of Common Tern are in residence on South Marsh East, Tophill Low

Friday 23rd

Dragonflies are emerging now with Four-spotted Chaser, Large Red Damselfly,

Azure and Blue-tailed Damselflies showing around East Pond at Tophill Low.

More Butterflies were on the wing today including this Small Copper at Watton.

Sunday 25th

Sightings from High Esk today included a Peregrine and 3 Cuckoos including this one

photographed by Dave Hobson

Tuesday 27th

A Marsh Warbler was singing this evening at Welton Waters.

Friday 30th

Sightings from Brough Haven today included 4 Avocet, 4 Tundrea Ringed Plovers, 1 Dunlin

and 2 Marsh Harriers
